In the machining of complex helical profiles with high leads, standard tools quickly hit a physical barrier. The lack of a proper clearance angle leads to rubbing against the profile flanks and instant failure of the cutting edge. To fully unlock the potential of step-over machining technology, I created a tool holder that frees the CNC lathe from these constraints.

This is a solution designed by a practitioner for professionals—combining freedom of positioning with uncompromising rigidity.
Kinematics and Economics
- Seamless Profile Adaptation: Adjusting the head tilt allows for a perfect match between the clearance angle and the helix lead angle. The design guarantees that after changing the angle, the insert tip remains precisely on the spindle centerline, completely eliminating the need for tedious, multi-axis setup.
- The Power of the VBMT Standard: The tool holder is engineered to work with standard, widely available rhombic inserts. This shifts the weight of machining from expensive, dedicated form tools to an affordable, universal tool that easily handles hard steels (up to 55 HRC).
- Rigorous Rigidity: Eliminating chatter is fundamental. The massive, compact tool body has been optimized for vibration dampening, guaranteeing ideal tooth surface smoothness and stable operation during the deep cutting of large-module worms.
